The commercial production of Cubic Zirconia began in 1976 and rapidly became a great competitor to diamonds due to its low cost, close visual likeness to diamonds, and durability. Even though the natural form of Cubic Zirconia (CZ) was originally discovered in 1892 and is still available in natural form, in modern days it is more popular to have it synthetically produced.
So, which should you choose Cubic Zirconia or Diamond?
Pros of CZ over Diamond:
More Affordable than Diamond
Dispersion is typically at .058-.066, whereas the diamond is only .044
Can be cut differently than Diamonds, which will give a unique look to your jewelry
Cubic Zirconia is naturally absolutely clear, but can come multicolored or tinted in pale yellow, purple, green, and pink, which again would add uniqueness to your jewelry.
Pros of Diamonds vs Cubic Zirconia:
Jewelry grade diamonds are natural and not synthesized
Diamonds do not scratch as Cubic Zirconia would
Diamonds do not degrade due to “wear and tear” over time, which cannot be said the same about Cubic Zirconia
The choice is yours. Do you plan to wear this jewelry often? Or is this only for once in a lifetime occasion? Will it get scratched with everyday use? Will I be able to care for it? Do I want to invest in diamonds?
Again, the choice is yours.
